In case you missed it...

It may have gotten lost in the shuffle because it initially aired on Christmas Eve, so we'd like to remind you to catch our special December 24 edition, which features former Detroit and New York sportscaster Bob Page!

FOTKJ (Friend of the Knee Jerks) Page takes us through a litany of diatribes, ranging from U-M/MSU football to the Lions to the Pistons to the Tigers to...well, you get the idea.

It's a truncated episode; no Birthday Game, no Jerks of the Week. Just the guys and Bob for about 45 minutes!!

Check it out HERE.

Monday, December 17, 2012

No show tonight (December 17), but next week: Bob Page!

Big Al is still feeling punky, so we're taking one more week off so he can fully recuperate. But the payoff is that, next week, we will be joined by old Knee Jerks friend and former Detroit and New York broadcaster Bob Page (above)! Regular listeners of our show know that whenever Bob is on the show, candor is the name of the game!

We might also work Adam Biggers into the show as well for an edition of "Adam Rants," as Adam hasn't been with us since November.

Monday, December 10, 2012

Tonight: Takin' the week off

Big Al is under the weather, and with the Lions game Sunday happening during our recording time, we wouldn't have been able to talk about the game anyway. So we're taking the week off and we'll come back at ya hard and heavy next week!

Shameless Plug: Eno's Basketball Bones game released in print!

It's HERE and ready to ship in time for Christmas!

Basketball Bones, the little basketball game that could, the one invented in my basement in the summer of 2008, is now available IN PRINT with dice, cards, charts, the whole shot! Check it out at the PT Games online store! Thanks again to Tim Plum for helping me realize this dream!! Complete game with 4 sample teams just $32, postage paid. 2011-12 season card set (over 500 players rated) just $55. Great Christmas gift! Ages 12 and up!

More on the game:

The basketball game is tied with less than 30 seconds to play. Just about everyone in the building expects the superstar scorer from the visiting team to get the ball in his hands to take the potential game-winning shot.  Everyone is standing—fans and players alike. Chants of “DEE-FENSE…DEE-FENSE” rock the arena. The clock ticks down. But the superstar doesn’t get the basketball. His teammates are unable to get it to him, thanks to great ball denial by the home team. The fans are relieved to see a secondary player from the visitors hoisting a jump shot as the clock ticks closer to 0:00. But that secondary player drains the 15-foot jumper, a dagger into the hearts of the home crowd. Down by two and the time almost gone, the home team takes a timeout and designs a buzzer-beating play. Will they go for the tie or try a desperation three-pointer to win the game and send the fans home deliriously happy? Could you picture the above scenario in your head? If you’re a follower of pro basketball, no doubt you did, because moments like those occur almost nightly in some arena, somewhere. It’s also a scenario that plays out in Basketball Bones, a brand new tabletop basketball game that uses four dice (“bones”) and individual player cards to re-create exciting pro basketball action that includes just about everything that happens on the hardwood! In most instances, the superstars will get the basketball in “crunch time,” because each player is rated for how often he is the focus of his team’s offense.  But the beauty of Basketball Bones is that, just like in real life, pro basketball is a player’s game, and sometimes the plays drawn out on the dry erase board break down. You get it all with Basketball Bones—rebounding beasts who dominate the boards; ball handling wizards who have that innate ability to find the open man for a high percentage shot; “money” free throw shooters who you don’t want to foul with the game on the line; three-point threats whose range extends to downtown; ball hawking defenders who are “pick pocket artists”; and even clumsy, ham-handed defenders who commit fouls quicker than you can blink an eye. In Basketball Bones, every player who suited up for that season gets an individual card rating him in every aspect of the pro game, from shooting frequency to field goal success to rebounding to defense, and more! The game is easy to set up and play. There are no laborious charts to constantly consult. Some possessions are resolved with one throw of the four Bones. The player cards are the integral parts of an engine designed to keep game play flowing like water from a spigot. But pro basketball isn’t just shooting and rebounding. Every game, every night, can include various elements which may affect the outcome: the home court advantage; momentum shifts; a bad night from a key player; a wayward referee’s whistle; and of course, that old bugaboo—injuries. They all can happen in Basketball Bones, too, thanks to the included Rare Play Boards, which bring those elements, and more, into your contests. Maybe a loose-lipped player says the “magic word” and gets slapped with an ill-timed technical foul. Maybe a wet spot on the floor causes your big man to slip and collapse to the floor like a house of cards, resulting in an injury. Maybe a brief spurt by the home team causes a change in momentum and leads to an even bigger and more damaging run. If you’ve seen it happen in the pro game, chances are it can happen in Basketball Bones. Basketball Bones ships in a sturdy box. Inside are player cards for a past pro season, the Rare Play Boards and Buzzer Beater Chart, an 11×17” display, and the Bones—three six sided dice (red, white and blue) and an eight-sided die, from which you will reproduce exciting pro basketball action. We know there are other basketball simulation games out there, and we know how popular some of them are. But Basketball Bones is unlike any other, because it combines simplicity with realism, making for a fun, fast, statistically-accurate pro basketball simulation. Take off your warm-ups and get on the court with Basketball Bones today! You’ve been called into the game! Basketball Bones---where every roll counts!

Hey! Eno created a basketball game!

Eno isn't just a bottom feeding blogger and ranting Jerk! You can add tabletop game designer to his resume.

Introducing Basketball Bones, a new tabletop simulation of the NBA created by Eno along with veteran game designer Tim Plum. With four dice and player cards that are rated based on actual NBA stats, you can re-create exciting pro basketball action on your tabletop!

Check it out! It will be released this week!

Tonight: Eno is a ranting fool (again)!!

With Adam Biggers taking the week off from his "Adam Rants" series (1st and 3rd Mondays of the month), that left more time for Eno to rant, and did he ever take advantage!

Eno went off on the Lions several times, in lengthy rants that afforded Big Al plenty of time to walk away, refill his drink, and catch up on local news.

The Jerks break down the Lions' latest catastrophe, and address off-field distractions like Titus Young and Ndamukong Suh. The boys wonder whether Martin Mayhew and Jim Schwartz are, indeed, the GM/coach tandem that can elevate the Lions to the next level.

After all things Lions, the Jerks touch briefly on the Tigers and their prospects of making moves at this week's Winter Meetings.

Of course, there's "Whose Birthday Is It?" (a Ronco Veg-a-Matic is at stake) and "Jerk of the Week"!!

It all starts at 7:00pm ET HERE!!

Monday, November 26, 2012

Tonight: Jamie Samuelsen!!

Tonight the Jerks welcome back old friend Jamie Samuelsen, one half of 97.1 The Ticket's "Jamie and Wojo" show, heard M-F from 6pm-8pm.

Jamie talks Lions, and gives his opinions as to why the team is 4-7. He hints that OC Scott Linehan doesn't know how to properly use RB Mikel LeShoure, and wonders whether HC Jim Schwartz is the right man to take the Lions to the next level. Then it's Tigers Talk, i.e. what the team might still do this off-season. Jamie also gives his take on the Pistons' rough 3-11 start and whether coach Lawrence Frank is having John Kuester-like communication problems.

All that and more with Jamie!

As usual, we all wonder if Big Al can correctly identify this week's "Whose Birthday Is It?" person. If he does within the first two clues, he'll win a Joe DiMaggio-vintage Mr. Coffee machine.

And of course, the guys name their "Jerk of the Week."

It all starts at 7pm ET HERE. Also available for download anytime thereafter!

Monday, November 12, 2012

Off this week; Jamie Samuelsen November 26

No show this week, but we return on November 19 with Adam Biggers for another edition of "Adam Ramts." Then, on November 26, 97.1 The Ticket's Jamie Samuelsen, one-half of the "Jamie and Wojo" show with the Detroit News' Bob Wojnowski, joins us! Jamie is a longtime friend of the Jerks and he will be on-hand to talk about a number of hot topics!

This week's episode: great chat with Ray Scott!!

In case you missed it, the Jerks had yet another spirited, informative discussion about the Pistons with former coach and player Ray Scott on Monday. But never fear; the beauty of podcasts is that you never really miss anything.

So here's the link to the episode with Coach Scott.

Eno and Big Al covered a lot with Coach---Andre Drummond/Greg Monroe; the importance of a full training camp this year; the roles of veterans like Tayshaun Prince, Rodney Stuckey and Jason Maxiell; the development of Brandon Knight; and much more.

After Coach, the Jerks talked Tigers and their disappointing World Series performance, and a little bit of hockey.

Of course, there was "Whose Birthday Is It?" and "Jerk of the Week."

Enjoy!!!

Tonight's show: Paula Pasche, Lions beat writer!

We're back after taking a week off due to Big Al's Bless You Boys duties taking precedence last week.

We have a terrific guest for you tonight: Paula Pasche, who is the Lions beat writer for the Oakland Press.

As an added bonus, during the interview Paula will also be answering four questions sent in by four lucky listeners, who will win a copy of her new book, 100 Things Lions Fans Should Know and Do Before They Die.

Those four listeners are: David Bark from Hamtramck; Daniel Welling from Chelsea; Prince Elia from West Bloomfield; and Tim Lillis from Kentwood. Congrats, guys! A copy of Paula's book is on its way to you this week!

After Paula's segment, the Jerks talk Tigers, and boy is there a lot to talk about! From the gut-wrenching ALDS to the sweep of the Yankees in the ALCS, and all the side stories that go with it, the Jerks are all over it!

There'll be a little U-M/MSU football talk, and of course, "Whose Birthday Is It?" and "Jerk of the Week."

It all starts at 7:00pm ET LIVE HERE.

Friday, October 19, 2012

LAST DAY!! Our First "Knee Jerks Giveaway"!!

For the first time since debuting in May, 2009, the Jerks have prizes to give away!

On October 22, our guest will be Paula Pasche, who covers the Lions for the Oakland Press.

We have four copies of Paula's new book, 100 Things Lions Fans Should Know and Do Before They Die, to give away.

Here's how it works. Simply e-mail us a question (TheKneeJerks@gmail.com) you would like us to ask Paula, about the Lions. Do so anytime between now and TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT. If we use your question on the air (don't worry, we'll give you credit), we will ship you a copy of Paula's book! So don't forget to include a mailing address when you submit your question.

Easy, right?

Monday, October 15, 2012

Tonight: No show; next week: Paula Pasche!

Thanks to Sunday's Tigers game bleeding into the evening (and thus, into our weekly recording time), Big Al's Bless You Boys obligations kept him away from the studio this week. But we will return like gangbusters next week.

On October 22, we will be joined by Paula Pasche, who covers the Lions for the Oakland Press. As an added bit of fun, four of the questions we ask Paula will come from four lucky winners of our contest to win a copy of Paula's book, 100 Things Lions Fans Should Know and Do Before They Die.

Here's how you can enter the contest. The deadline is October 19.

See ya next week!

Tonight's show: Lee Panas, baseball sabermetrician, discusses the AL MVP race!

Tonight, the Jerks welcome old friend Lee Panas of Detroit Tiger Tales, a sabermetrics guy and the author of Beyond Batting Averagewho will discuss the AL MVP race between Mike Trout of the Angels and Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers. Lee will present his argument as to why Trout should be the league MVP.

After Lee, Eno and Big Al keep talking Tigers and their ALDS with the Oakland A's. Everything from the supposed expanded strike zone in Game 1 to Al Alburquerque kissing the baseball in Game 2, the Jerks break down the series.

The Jerks also discuss the Indians' hiring of Terry Francona as their new manager, as well as the scope of Cabrera's Triple Crown.

It all starts at 7:00pm ET HERE.

Monday, October 1, 2012

Tonight's Show: Tigers on verge; so is Miggy; Lions can't roar

We're back, after taking a week off!

Tonight the Jerks welcome freelance sports journalist and broadcaster Adam Biggers for another edition of "Adam Rants." In tonight's rant, Adam breaks down MSU's rocky start in football, including Saturday's loss to Ohio State. Adam pops in about 45 minutes into the show.

Before and after Adam, Eno and Big Al talk Tigers and discuss why they are on the verge of winning the AL Central. It hasn't always been pretty, but it looks like the Detroiters are going to get the job done.

The Jerks also talk Miggy Cabrera, and his assault on the Triple Crown. Also at issue: sabermetrics, and their influence on how the game of baseball is analyzed. This is of particular relevance to Cabrera, because a lot of sabermetricians are pooh-poohing Miggy's season and the Triple Crown in general.

The Lions also get their airtime as Eno and Big Al offer their opinions as to why the team is off to a 1-3 start. Should special teams coach Danny Crossman get the ziggy?

Of course, there's another edition of "Whose Birthday Is It?" (will Big Al win a set of Ginsu knives?) and of course, "Jerk of the Week."

It all starts at 7:00pm ET HERE.

Monday, September 24, 2012

Tonight: Takin' the week off!

With Big Al's new gig as co-Managing Editor of Bless You Boys, and with the Jerks now recording the show on Sunday nights, there may be an occasional conflict, and you can thank Friday's rainout for there being no TKJ podcast this week.

The game was made up on Sunday evening, putting Big Al in direct conflict. So we'll be back at it next week!

Big Al: Aloha!

Eno: Ciao Italy!

Monday, September 17, 2012

Tonight's Show: Adam Rants!

It's the third Monday of the month, and that means the Jerks will be joined by freelance sports journalist Adam Biggers (pictured) for another edition of "Adam Rants," about 45 minutes into the show. Tonight Adam riffs on MSU and U-M football, and he's a little annoyed!!

Before and after Adam, Eno and Big Al take on the NHL as they discuss the lockout. Both Jerks put the blame on the owners for this latest version of labor unrest in sports.

The guys also talk college football, the Tigers, and of course there's "Jerk of the Week" and "Whose Birthday Is It?" Will Big Al correctly guess this week's Birthday Boy? If he does, he wins a Popiel Pocket Fisherman!

It all starts at 7:00pm ET HERE.

Note: The show was recorded Sunday afternoon, so hence no talk of the Lions-49ers game or the Tigers' implosion in Cleveland.

Monday, September 10, 2012

Tonight's show: Ian Casselberry to talk Tigers!

Be sure to tune in tonight as we welcome back a long, lost friend of the Jerks---Ian Casselberry, MLB's Lead Writer for Bleacher Report.

Ian will talk Tigers as the season starts to enter its crucial final weeks. He'll discuss Alex Avila, Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, the big series in Chicago, and much more!

After Ian, Eno and Big Al will dissect the Lions win over the Rams, and don't forget "Whose Birthday Is It?" and "Jerk of the Week"!!

It all starts tonight at 7:00pm ET HERE!!

Friday, September 7, 2012

Catch Eno on "The Phil Naessens Show"!!

Eno just did an Internet radio interview with Phil Naessens, talking Tigers for about 50 minutes.

Phil has been gracious enough to invite Eno on his show several times over the past year.

Here's the link to the show: Phil Naessens Show: Detroit Tigers baseball with Greg Eno/September 2012.

Monday, September 3, 2012

Tonight: Taking the week off!

Monday, August 27, 2012

Tonight's Show: Son of Swami himself, Mick McCabe

Tonight the Jerks welcome an old friend, Mick McCabe, the Son of Swami and the high school sports beat writer and columnist for the Detroit Free Press.

Mick will preview the 2012 prep football season, including letting us know who are the top teams and players in the state. He'll also regale us with stories and experiences of his many years covering high school sports in Michigan, including his number one, all-time high school athlete that he's ever covered. Want to know who it is? Then tune in!

After Mick, the Jerks will talk Lions football as the pre-season winds down. Are there any concerns? Was the 31-20 loss at Oakland on Saturday anything to worry about?

And then, the Tigers: any worries about Doug Fister's groin injury? Can Drew Smyly be a key part of the stretch drive? Is Maddening Max Scherzer finally blossoming into a reliable starter?

We'll also touch on the huge Red Sox/Dodgers trade and PEDs, thanks to the recent nabbing of pitcher Bartolo Colon, who was caught using them.

All that and more, plus Whose Birthday Is It? and Jerk of the Week!

It all starts at 7:00PM LIVE HERE.

Tonight's Show: Adam Biggers, Tigers and Lions

Tune in to the latest episode of "The Knee Jerks" as the guys welcome freelance sportswriter and radio analyst Adam Biggers for another edition of "Adam Rants" about 45 minutes into the show. Adam joins the Jerks on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of every month to pontificate.

Before and after Adam, the guys will give their takes on the Melky Cabrera/MLB/PED situation, in which the Giants' All-Star outfielder was suspended for 50 games and then was caught trying to use a fake website as a fallback plan.

Of course, the Tigers' strange weekend series against Baltimore will get lots of air time, as will the Lions' second exhibition game. The Jerks talk about the Matthew Stafford/Calvin Johnson connection, along with wondering whether DE Willie Young is ready for Prime Time.

There will be the standbys of "Whose Birthday Is It?" and "Jerk of the Week," as always.

The episode is available for download beginning at 7:00pm ET by clicking HERE.

Monday, August 13, 2012

Tonight's show: "Fourth Jerk" Mike Schottey talks Lions!

One of our favorite guests, Bleacher Report's Mike Schottey, is our guest tonight (August 13), talking Lions. Mike, B/R's new National Lead Writer for the NFL,will discuss his take on the Lions' first exhibition game, and talk about everything from Ndamukong Suh to Louie Delmas to Kellen Moore to Joique Bell and Keiland Williams. All that, and MORE! You can listen at 7:00pm ET HERE.

Eno: Second guessing of Leyland not always fair

In his latest missive, Eno comes down on the second guessers of Tigers manager Jim Leyland who won't give the skipper any credit when his in-game decisions work. Check it out HERE.

Monday, July 30, 2012

Eno: Lions must learn to control themselves---on the field

Read Eno's latest, in which he says that the off-season arrests of several Lions players will have little to no effect on the team's 2012 performance. What WILL affect the team's W/L record, Eno writes, is how the Lions control and improve their undisciplined play on the field, which was an issue in 2011.

Read more HERE.

Monday, July 23, 2012

Tonight's show: Tigers, Lions, and Penn State, oh my!

On tonight's episode, the Jerks assess the Tigers situation (taped prior to today's trade) and try to determine whether the team has what it takes to win the division. The Lions are also in the crosshairs, vis a vis the troubles of Aaron Berry and other off-season shenanigans.

Then, the Jerks weigh in on the mess at Penn State, again keeping in mind the show was taped Sunday night, before the NCAA came down on the university.

Big Al tries to guess whose birthday it is, and as usual, the show ends with the guys' Jerks of the Week. Warning: Tigers fans might not like Eno's choice!

The show is ready for download at 7:00pm ET, by clicking HERE.

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Eno: It's been 25 years--forget John Smoltz already!

In his latest piece, Eno is frustrated with those who don't want the Tigers to trade prospect Nick Castellanos (above)---because of the John Smoltz/Doyle Alexander trade of 25 years ago.

Read why Eno feels the Tigers ought not be afraid to trade any prospect in the name of winning now, HERE.

Monday, July 16, 2012

Eno: Paterno has stained PSU football forever

Read Eno's latest, where he declares that Joe Paterno has forever stained Penn State University football.

Check it out HERE.

Tonight's Show: Our first pre-taped episode!

Tired of the technical glitches with Blog Talk Radio, Eno and Big Al will now be pre-taping each episode on Sunday night, for available download on Mondays at 7pm, and anytime thereafter.

The first such show is airing tonight, as the Jerks talk Tigers first half MVPs and LVPs (Least Valuable); surprises; disappointments; and who needs to step it up in the second half.

Eno and Big Al also ponder who might be in for a second half slide. Which player is ripe for disappointment?

There is also plenty of Penn State talk (sadly) as Eno wonders how Joe Paterno could have kept Jerry Sandusky on his staff all these years.

Yahoo! Sports' Adam Biggers joins the guys around 45 minutes in, also weighing in on Penn State.

All that, plus Red Wings (what to do NOW?); "Whose Birthday Is It?" (hint: Al did good this week!) and "Jerk of the Week."

To download at 7:00 or anytime thereafter, go HERE.

Eno: Suter, Parise rebuff Hockeytown; how dare they!!

At GregEno.com, Eno posted a weekend piece that also generated a LOT of response at Bleacher Report . It was about the Red Wings' failure to sign Ryan Suter and/or Zach Parise, the NHL's two most sought after free agents.

See if you agree with Eno's assessment that Hockeytown just isn't what it used to be.

Tonight's Show: Former MLB Umpire Dave Pallone!

Tonight the Jerks return after a week off thanks to technical difficulties! And our guest is a good one: former MLB umpire Dave Pallone (National League), baseball's first openly gay umpire. Dave will talk about the re-release of his 1990 book, "Behind the Mask: My Double Life in Baseball," and we'll also talk about the current state of umpiring and other baseball-related topics.

After Dave, Eno and Big Al will discuss the state of the Tigers at the All-Star break; the fallout for the Red Wings after failing to sign FAs Ryan Suter or Zach Parise; the Lions' contract extension with coach Jim Schwartz; and the Pistons' no. 1 draft pick, Andre Drummond.

Don't forget "Whose Birthday Is It?" and "Jerk of the Week!"

It all happens at 7:00p.m. ET LIVE here.

Eno: Time for Tigers to put up or shut up

In today's edition of "Monday Morning Manager" at GregEno.com, Eno says that this week upcoming is the most important of the Tigers season. With seven home games against the Twins and Royals on the menu leading to the All-Star break, Eno feels this is the week for the Tigers to put up or shut up.

Do you agree? You can read more HERE.

Monday, June 25, 2012

Tonight's Show: We're Back!!!

No guest tonight as "The Knee Jerks" return after a one-week absence due to Big Al being under the weather.

But the Jerks are back tonight and there is lots to talk about!

The Tigers: are they coming around? What about this perilous trip to Texas and Tampa this week? Are they turning the corner, but only to get mugged?

The Lions: Ndamukong Suh keeps popping up on lists, and they're not always favorable (Most Overrated, Biggest Jerk, etc) but former Lions pass rushing artist Bubba Baker believes in Suh's direction. Which is the more accurate assessment?

All that, plus more Lions, Whose Birthday Is It, and Jerks of the Week.

It all starts at 7:00pm ET LIVE here!!

Monday, June 18, 2012

Breaking: No show tonight (June 18)

Big Al is feeling under the weather, so we're going to take the week off, but come back hard at you on June 25! Have a great week everyone!

Blast from the past!

HAIR! This is a sick flow in any decade. (Henry Boucha - Phot... on Twitpic

Saw this posted on Twitter: Red Wings forward Henry Boucha, circa 1973-75. He would wear white head bands to go with the white home jerseys!

Eno on Q: Let's not get carried away

Eno wrote what turned out to be a rather controversial piece over the weekend that ended up getting both praised and panned on Twitter and Bleacher Report (the panning mainly coming from the Twitter feed of Jeff Moss of the Detroit Sports Rag).

It's about Quintin Berry Mania, and why Eno feels the brakes need to be put on it. Keep in mind this was written BEFORE Berry's 5-for-5 day on Sunday!

Monday, June 11, 2012

Tonight's show: Bob Page returns!!

Tonight the Jerks welcome back a favorite guest---former Detroit and New York sportscaster Bob Page!

It's always fun to have the outspoken, knowledgeable Page on; you never know what he might say!

Talking points with Bob:

Stanley Cup Finals (i.e. how the NHL playoffs are so unpredictable; national interest, etc)
Lions off-field behavioral problems
NBA Finals (Good vs. Evil?)
Red Wings after Lidstrom (and they traded Brad Stuart)

After Bob, it's Tigers talk (will the series win in Cincy kick start them?; should people be getting fired?); Lions and their off-season from Hell (arrests); and a little bit of Red Wings (Brad Stuart is the latest d-man to vamoose, having been traded to San Jose).

Of course, there's also "Whose Birthday Is It?" and "Jerk of the Week"!!

It all starts at 7:00pm ET LIVE!!

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

Monday's show: Truncated but lotsa Lidstrom!

Due to technical difficulties (aka Big Al's piss poor Internet service), Monday's show was cut short by about 25 minutes. Still, the Jerks got in what they REALLY wanted to talk about: the retirement of Red Wings defenseman Nick Lidstrom, and the effect it will have on the, as Eno likes to say, "organEYEzayshun."

For about 45 minutes, the Jerks riffed on Lidstrom's loss and how the Red Wings (meaning GM Ken Holland) will respond, personnel-wise.

Then it was Yahoo! Sports' Adam Biggers and "Adam Rants." Monday, Adam went off on the Lions' kid gloves approach with DT (and apparent pot head speedster) Nick Fairley, and why MSU grad Draymond Green is being overlooked heading into the NBA Draft.

The show ended before Big Al could correctly guess former catcher Tony Pena as the identity of "Whose Birthday Is It?"

You can download the 65-minute episode HERE.

Bless You Boys Podcast 42: Burning up goodwill

Big Al's other podcast has a new episode, well worth checking out!

It's time for another Bless You Boys Podcast, where we would rather talk about Donner the dog, the forest fires in the Upper Peninsula, Alli's weekend with her boyfriend, the USMNST, the NBA draft lottery, Nick Lidstrom...anything to keep us from being depressed over the Detroit Tigers' current situation. But talk Tigers we do, because we're fans, through Hell and high water, thick and thin...mostly Hell and thin as of late, unfortunately.

BYB Podcast 42 runs 1:07 and features Kurt Mensching, Allison Hagen and Al Beaton.
Topics:
  • Kurt's latest Detroit News column calls out Tigers fans who want Jim Leyland fired.
  • Was Fox Sports Detroit's Rod Allen correct when he said after the end of another loss, "It's not early anymore?"
  • The RAYBRUN SUX!!1! types got their wish, as the Tigers sent Ryan Raburn to Toledo in a desperate attempt to get his bat going.
  • Omir Santos, who will be a 3rd string catcher, was called up to take Raburn's roster spot. WHY?
  • Doug Fister is placed on the 15-day DL...again.Should we panic?
  • Will Fister's health issues change who the Tigers may be looking to acquire at the trade deadline?
  • Hello Casey Crosby!
  • Quintin Berry looks as if he's in Detroit to stay, but in what role? No, it's not as a 2nd baseman!
  • Austin Jackson is eligible to come off the disabled list, but isn't ready to return. Should we panic?
  • Prince Fielder = Dr. Strangeglove.
  • Jim Leyland demands accountability from the umpires, but he wants the media to do it for him.
  • Maggilo Ordonez announced his retirement this week. We discuss Magglio's legacy.

We're Baaack!

After taking a week off for Memorial Day, The Knee Jerks return tonight (June 4) to kick off Season Four!

What a way to start a new season, eh?

Here's what's NOT sad: a return by Yahoo! Sports' Adam Biggers at 7:45 for another edition of "Adam Rants."

And don't forget "Whose Birthday Is It?" and "Jerk of the Week."

Bless You Boys Podcast 41: Is this season a grease, tire or dumpster fire?

The latest episode of Al's Bless You Boys Podcast covers the gamut, from BAIBP to Fankenberry to Nick Castellanos to a sack of cheeseburgers.

BYB Podcast 40 runs 1:21 and features Kurt Mensching, Rob Rogacki and Al Beaton.

Topics:
  •     What's wrong with the Detroit Tigers?
  •     Trading Jacob Turner and there's no such thing as a pitching prospect.
  •     Ryan Raburn is placed on bereavement leave, Tigers fans make asses of themselves by continuing to make "Ra-BUM SUX!" comments.
  •     Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer are good at baseball.
  •     Meet Quintin Berry!
  •     Did Berry's call up make Don Kelly redundant?
  •     Collin Balester vs. Luke Putkonen.
  •     Losing Austin Jackson to injury is like losing an MVP candidate.

Monday's show: a cavalcade of guests!

Our three-year anniversary show was a huge success and a lot of fun. There was also a special surprise---it even surprised US---and was a first ever occurrence on The Knee Jerks. Hint: someone announced a life-changing event on the air.

From former Pistons player and coach Ray Scott to start the show, to 1-800-Hansons' Brian Elias to end it, we enjoyed talking to no less than NINE former guests and friends of the show who joined us to celebrate three years on the Internet air.

And there was this lovely note e-mailed from 97.1 The Ticket's Jamie Samuelsen, who couldn't be on the show because of his radio commitment:

"Cheers to Greg and Big Al on their third anniversary.

I've loved being part of the Knee Jerks over the years and wish them the best in the years to come. I'm not sure there are two more knowledgable or passionate Detroit fans talking sports out there.

And on a personal note - thanks to the wacky nature of radio, there have been a time or two in the last three years when I've been off the air. Al and Greg were always great to have me on "The Knee Jerks". I missed talking sports during that stretch and those guys helped me keep doing what I love to do.

Congrats fellas.

Jamie Samuelsen"

Thanks, Jamie!!

You can listen to the nearly two hours of frivolity HERE.

Monday is our 3-year anniversary show!

Believe it or not, "The Knee Jerks" podcast began three years ago this month, around Memorial Day. The first show dealt with the Red Wings' playoff run. Since then, over 130 shows have been recorded, as the Jerks have missed just a few Mondays each year.

On Monday, May 21, the Jerks will celebrate three years on the Internet air by welcoming back a bunch of guests from past shows.

Scheduled to appear:

7:00-7:15 Former Pistons coach and player Ray Scott
7:15-7:30 Pete Krupsky (voice of the Plymouth Whalers)
7:30-7:45 Mick McCabe (Free Press HS sports writer)
7:45-8:00 Mike Schottey (NFL/Lions Insider); Adam Biggers (Yahoo! Sports)
8:00-8:15 Brian Elias (1-800-Hansons); Paul Swaney (Stadium Journey); Tom Hannon (The Baseball Page)
8:15-8:30 Doreen Taylor (singer/entertainer); Linda McCoy-Murray (Jim Murray Memorial Foundation)

It all starts at 7:00 pm ET LIVE HERE!!

Monday's Show: When to panic about the Tigers?

Monday night, Eno and Big Al went guest-less (in anticipation of next week's Anniversary Show Extravaganza) and tackled many issues.

First up was the Tigers and Big Al wondered: Is it time to panic? If not now, then when?

The Jerks ran the gamut, from Brandon Inge terrorizing his old teammates to the question of what to do with Ryan Raburn.

Then a couple of Detroit News columns got in the cross hairs: Terry Foster on the Tigers not having Placido Polanco, and Jerry Green crabbing about sabermetrics.

Big Al bemoaned the highly UNattractive Western Conference Finals in the NHL pitting Los Angeles against Phoenix.

For their Jerks of the Week, Big Al did a "reverse jerk" (listen to find out) and Eno went after a certain big-time university president.

Did Big Al correctly guess this week's Birthday Boy? Listen to find out!

Bless You Boys Podcast 39: Gloom, doom and general sadness

The latest episode of Al's other podcast is live!

Following up on the tone of the site the past few weeks, Kurt, Allison and Al talk about the worst team in all of baseball, the Detroit Tigers, in this week's Bless You Boys Podcast. I don't even know why we bothered recording, as the season is essentially over. But we slogged ahead anyway, despite our ennui. Or maybe we're just tired and cranky from a week of 10PM starts.

BYB Podcast 39 runs 1:01 and features Kurt Mensching, Allison Hagen, and Al Beaton.

Tonight's Show: Too early to panic?

It's a "no guest" night because next week the airwaves will be filled with a cavalcade of folks for our 3-year anniversary show!

Tonight Eno and Big Al will riff on the Tigers (too early to panic?); the Stanley Cup playoffs (Phoenix and LA in the WCF?); and Big Al has a beef with two of Detroit sports mainstream media guys.

Don't forget "Whose Birthday Is It?" and "Jerk of the Week"!!

It all starts at 7:00p.m. ET LIVE HERE!

Detroit News' Terry Foster: Tigers haunted by letting Polanco walk

The Detroit News's Terry Foster came out with a piece this morning bemoaning the Tigers' decision to let 2B Placido Polanco bolt via free agency after the 2009 season. Eno and Big Al have talked about this in the past and they agreed at the time that it was a bad move.

Given the team's utter lack of production at the 2B position this year, might the Tigers try to pry Polanco away from the Phillies?

Read Foster's piece HERE.

Eno and Big Al on Monday's Show: Goodell got it right with Saints suspensions

On Monday's show, Eno and Big Al riffed on Reiff---Lions' #1 draft pick Riley Reiff (OT, Iowa), along with the surprising selection of WR Ryan Broyles from Oklahoma.

The Jerks also talked about the New Orleans Saints and their players being suspended left and right for "Bounty Gate." Basically, both Eno and Big Al lauded NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for his heavy hand.

Then it was on to the Tigers and whether it's too soon to panic (and this was BEFORE Octavio Dotel's meltdown on Monday night in Seattle!).

Big Al also wanted to know why no-hitters are more commonplace nowadays, and Eno gave his $0.02 worth!

Yahoo! Sports' Adam Biggers joined the Jerks about 45 minutes in and ranted about Kurt Warner's comments regarding his kids and playing football, along with how Adam doesn't feel moved by the NBA anymore.

Big Al's "Jerk of the Week" was a certain maligned Tigers pitcher, while Eno countered with a former MSU football coach.

Did Big Al correctly guess "Whose Birthday Is It?"?? Listen and find out HERE.

Before and after Adam, Eno and Big Al will riff on the Tigers, the New Orleans Saints, and the NBA and NHL playoffs. Don't forget "Whose Birthday Is It?" and "Jerk of the Week"!!

It all starts at 7:00p.m. ET LIVE HERE.

Mike will also talk about new Lions QB Kellen Moore, signed as an undrafted FA from Boise State, presumably to be the team's new third string quarterback.

After Mike, the Jerks will talk Tigers and their bad and drama-filled week; the Pistons' strong finish; and more Lions draft.

Don't forget "Whose Birthday Is It?" and "Jerk of the Week"!!

Then Big Al took over, as Eno had to step away, and interviewed NHL/Red Wings Insider Matt Hutter, who gave a post-mortem on the 2011-12 season.

Eno wasn't able to return, so Big Al signed off about 53 minutes into the show. But Eno will be back in full next week!

Big Al on Lions 2012 Schedule

The NFL released its 2012 schedule Tuesday evening, and Big Al has plenty to say about it.

Last Night's Show: Eno and Big Al Long For Return to "Old School" NHL Justice

Last night's show featured Big Al successfully guessing "Whose Birthday Is It?", a spirited discussion about the NHL's namby-pamby treatment of Shea Weber's brutal move on Henrik Zetterberg, and the Tigers' 6-3 start (including, sadly, some minutes about Brandon Inge!).

Adam Biggers joined us 45 minutes in to rant about an unsolved mystery surrounding MSU senior hoopster Derrick Nix's DUI case.

Eno and Big Al fondly recalled the days of the 1970s/'80s/'90s NHL, when teams had more than one tough guy, and matters were settled with fists, on the ice---not with cheap shots and suspensions and fines.

Big Al picked some low-hanging fruit for his "Jerk of the Week," and Eno countered with a new/old MLB manager.

    If it's Monday....

It's Monday, and not only does that mean that it's "The Knee Jerks," but it's also time for Monday Morning Manager, Eno's weekly take on the Tigers.

    Check it out HERE.

Tonight's Show (April 16): Adam Biggers at 7:45

This is the third Monday of the month, which means that Yahoo! Sports' Adam Biggers will join the Jerks at approximately 7:45 p.m. for "Adam Rants."

Before and after Adam, the Jerks will look at the Tigers' weekend in Chicago (including Miggy Cabrera's 0-for-16 slump and Adam Wilk's first start); the Red Wings' playoff series with Nashville; and some pre-NFL Draft talk.

Join us at 7:00 p.m. ET LIVE!!

Eno: Tom Izzo Far Outclasses Bobby Petrino

On Sunday, Eno had a take on the disparity in ethics between former Arkansas football coach Bobby "Crash" Petrino and MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo.

Petrino, as you know, is out as Razorbacks coach following a mistress/motorcycle crash scandal, while Izzo very promptly responded to the DUI situation of senior Derrick Nix.
